Credits & billing¶
Manage everything money-related in your panel under Billing. This page explains how it works; for current prices and plan limits see the pricing page (always the source of truth).
How credits work¶
EchoRelay runs on credits for paid traffic. Each paid delivery draws from the right balance. You hold two separate pools:
- Live — your paid credits, used by your
er_live_…key. (On the free tier your live key relays at the free rate without drawing credits.) - Test — a separate test-credit pool, used by your
er_test_…key, with a lower rate limit. It's a paid perk, included with credit packs and the Pro/Scale plans (see the pricing page). It never touches your paid balance.
Streaming responses¶
A streaming target (one that sends its response back live, chunk by chunk) is billed a little differently from a normal call:
- The normal per-call charge covers the request and the first part of the response.
- A large streamed response adds to that in proportion to its size — the same way a large request body does. Heartbeats and keep-alive messages are free.
- A stream that's cut short (you disconnect, or the target stops) bills only for what was actually delivered to you. A stream that never starts (the target was unreachable) isn't charged at all.
See the pricing page for the size unit.
Topping up & plans¶
- Top up prepaid credits any time from Billing → Top up. They stay valid for a fixed window (see the pricing page) and aren't touched when a plan renews.
- Plans add a recurring allowance plus a higher steady rate limit. The allowance resets each cycle — unused allowance doesn't carry over. Compare plans on the pricing page and start/change a plan from Billing.
- Add-ons (extra rate capacity, team seats, longer history) are also under Billing.
Spending order
A delivered call spends your recurring plan allowance first, then your prepaid credits — so prepaid top-ups are always there as a safety buffer.
"Payment required" (402)¶
A 402 only comes from the test pool — testing is a paid perk that runs on its own
cycle. Refill it by buying a credit pack or subscribing to Pro/Scale (each plan cycle tops the
pool back up), or just use your live key.
Your live traffic is never rejected for being out of credits. If your live pool empties, EchoRelay keeps relaying and eases your project down to the free rate until your balance is refilled — so there's no interruption, just a lower speed. A top-up restores your full rate immediately; one made in the first minute or so keeps you at full speed the whole time. Top up at Billing → Top up.
Invoices & receipts¶
Find invoices under Billing. Payments are handled by our payment provider (Paddle), who is the merchant of record — your invoice and any tax come from them.

Cancelling¶
You can cancel a plan or add-on from Billing; the confirmation page explains what changes and when. Prepaid credits you've already bought stay on your balance.
Add-ons renew while your subscription is active. If your subscription ends, they stop renewing on their own — each add-on cycle you've already paid for stays active until its own end date, with no further charges. You're never cut off from something you've paid for, and you're never billed for an add-on after your plan is gone.
